The geomagnetic field was quiet to minor storm on July 5. Solar wind speed ranged between 360 and 438 km/s under the influence of a stream from CH462.
Solar flux measured at 20h UTC on 2.8 GHz was 84.8 (decreasing 5.4 over the last solar rotation). The planetary A index was 14 (STAR Ap - based on the mean of three hour interval ap indices: 13.9). Three hour interval K indices: 35211222 (planetary), 35321212 (Boulder).
The background x-ray flux is at the class B1 level.
At midnight UTC the visible solar disk had 7 spotted regions.
Region 11243 developed again with minor polarity intermixing to the
north of the single penumbra.
Region 11244 decayed slowly and quietly.
Spotted regions not numbered by NOAA/SWPC:
[S1096] rotated into view at the northeast limb on July 4. Location at midnight: S19E55
[S1097] emerged near the equator in the northeastern quadrant on July 5. Location at midnight: N01E36
[S1098] emerged near the equator in the northeastern quadrant on July 5. Location at midnight: N03E26
[S1099] emerged in the southeastern quadrant on July 5. Location at midnight: S23E27
[S1100] emerged in the southeastern quadrant on July 5. Location at midnight: S35E18
July 4-5: No obviously earth directed CMEs were observed.
July 3: A small CME was observed in STEREO and LASCO imagery after a B9 event in region 11244 early in the day.
Coronal hole history (since late October

A trans equatorial coronal hole (CH462) was Earth facing on July 1-2. A coronal hole (CH463) in the northern hemisphere will rotate into an Earth facing position on July 5-6. A recurrent coronal hole (CH464) in the southern hemisphere will become Earth facing on July 7-8.
The above coronal hole map is based on a new method where coronal holes are detected automatically. The method may need some fine tuning, however, it has significant advantages over detecting coronal holes manually. The main improvement is the ability to detect coronal holes at and just beyond the solar limbs. Early results using this method for SDO images over a span of several weeks indicate a good match between coronal holes observed over the visible disk and their extent and position at the east and west limbs. Note that the polar coronal holes are easily detected using the new method, the extent and intensity of both holes are consistent with other data sources.
Long distance low and medium frequency (below 2 MHz) propagation along paths north of due west over high and upper middle latitudes is poor. Propagation on long distance northeast-southwest paths is fair to good.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be quiet to unsettled on July 6 and quiet on July 7. A high speed stream from CH463 could reach Earth late on July 8 and cause some unsettled and active intervals until July 10. On July 10-11 a high speed stream from CH464 could cause quiet to active conditions.

When available the active region map has a coronal hole polarity overlay where red (pink) is negative and blue (blue-green) is positive.
