The geomagnetic field was quiet on November 5. Solar wind speed ranged between 271 and 349 km/s.
Solar flux measured at 20h UTC on 2.8 GHz was 171.9 (increasing 50.9 over the last solar rotation). The planetary A index was 4 (STAR Ap - based on the mean of three hour interval ap indices: 3.9). Three hour interval K indices: 21111001 (planetary), 11212211 (Boulder).
The background x-ray flux is at the class B8 level.
At midnight UTC the visible solar disk had 9 spotted regions (in 2K resolution SDO images).
Region 11334 [N13W61] was quiet and stable
Region 11337 [N18W02] decayed slowly and quietly.
Region 11338 [S13E15] was quiet and stable.
Region 11339 [N20E31] still has a magnetic delta structure in the central part as well as in a trailing penumbra, none of the deltas are currently strong. The region has lost some of its penumbral area over the last day. Flares: C1.8 at 01:00, long duration M3.7/1F peaking at 03:35, C1.3 at 09:24, C1.5 at 10:09, M1.1 at 11:21, C4.2 at 15:35, M1.8/1N at 20:38 UTC.
New region 11340 [S09E63] rotated into view at the southeast limb on November 4 and got an SWPC number the next day.
New region 11341 [N09E80] rotated into view at the northeast limb on November 5.
New region 11342 [N18E79] rotated into view at the northeast limb on November 5. There could be a small magnetic delta structure in the trailing penumbra, the region will have to rotate into better view to determine if this is the case.
Spotted regions not reported by NOAA/SWPC:
[S1312] rotated partly into view at the northeast limb on November 5. Location at midnight: N27E89
[S1313] emerged in the northwest quadrant on November 5. Location at midnight: N25W28
November 3-5: No obviously Earth directed CMEs observed.
Coronal hole history (since late October

A small coronal hole (CH484) in the northern hemisphere was in an Earth facing position on November 3.
The above coronal hole map is based on a new method where coronal holes are detected automatically. The method may need some fine tuning, however, it has significant advantages over detecting coronal holes manually. The main improvement is the ability to detect coronal holes at and just beyond the solar limbs. Early results using this method for SDO images over a span of several weeks indicate a good match between coronal holes observed over the visible disk and their extent and position at the east and west limbs. Note that the polar coronal holes are easily detected using the new method, the extent and intensity of both holes are consistent with other data sources.
Long distance low and medium frequency (below 2 MHz) propagation along paths north of due west over high and upper middle latitudes is poor to fair. Propagation on long distance northeast-southwest paths is poor.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be quiet to unsettled on November 6-7 due to weak effects from CH484 and quiet on November 8.

When available the active region map has a coronal hole polarity overlay where red (pink) is negative and blue (blue-green) is positive.
