The geomagnetic field was quiet to unsettled on February 5. Solar wind speed ranged between 363 and 440 km/s under the influence of a low speed stream from CH498.
Solar flux measured at 20h UTC on 2.8 GHz was 102.7 (decreasing 39.6 over the last solar rotation). The planetary A index was 8 (STAR Ap - based on the mean of three hour interval ap indices: 8.0). Three hour interval K indices: 31112232 (planetary), 21122222 (Boulder).
The background x-ray flux is at the class B2 level.
At midnight UTC the visible solar disk had 4 spotted regions (in 2K resolution SDO images).
Region 11410 [N17W56] decayed slowly and was quiet.
Region 11413 [N08W60] decayed slowly and quietly.
Spotted regions not reported by NOAA/SWPC:
[S1458] emerged in the northeast quadrant on February 2. Location at midnight: N11W17
[S1460] emerged in the northwest quadrant on February 5 to the east of region 11410. The region has potential for further development. Location at midnight: N18W48
February 3-5: No obviously Earth directed CMEs were observed in LASCO and STEREO imagery.
Coronal hole history (since October

A trans equatorial coronal hole (CH498) was in an Earth facing position on January 30-February 2. A recurrent coronal hole (CH499) in the southern hemisphere will be in an Earth facing position on February 6-7.
The above coronal hole map is based on a method where coronal holes are detected automatically. While the method may need some fine tuning, it has significant advantages over detecting coronal holes manually. The main improvement is the ability to detect coronal holes at and just beyond the solar limbs. Early results using this method for SDO images over a span of several weeks indicate a good match between coronal holes observed over the visible disk and their extent and position at the east and west limbs. Note that the polar coronal holes are easily detected using this method, the extent and intensity of both CHs are consistent with other data sources.
Long distance low and medium frequency (below 2 MHz) propagation along paths north of due west over high and upper middle latitudes is poor to fair. Propagation on long distance northeast-southwest paths is fair.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be quiet on February 6-8. Weak effects from CH499 are possible on February 9-10.

When available the active region map has a coronal hole polarity overlay where red (pink) is negative and blue (blue-green) is positive.
