The geomagnetic field was very quiet on October 27. Solar wind speed at SOHO ranged between 337 and 390 km/s.
Solar flux at 20h UTC on 2.8 GHz was 110.1 (decreasing 21.0 over the last solar rotation). The 90 day 10.7 flux at 1 AU was 104.3. The Potsdam WDC planetary A index was 2 (STAR Ap - based on the mean of three hour interval ap indices: 2.4). Three hour interval K indices: 00101011 (planetary), 00002311 (Boulder).
The background x-ray flux is at the class B8 level.
At the time of counting spots (see image time), spots were observed in 10 active regions using 2K resolution (SN: 159) and 8 active regions using 1K resolution (SN: 105) SDO images on the visible solar disk.
Region 12435 [S15W74] regained a trailing spot
while the leader spot increased penumbral area.
Region 12436 [N08W64] decayed slowly and was mostly quiet.
Region 12437 [S20W46] developed as new flux emerged.
Region 12439 [N15E12] decayed slowly and quietly.
Region 12440 [N18W15] developed early in the day, then began to decay.
New region 12441 [N13E48] emerged early in the day.
Spotted regions not numbered (or interpreted differently) by SWPC:
S4849 [N13W07] was quiet and stable.
S4850 [S02W00] was quiet and stable.
New region S4852 [N14E24] emerged with several spots.
New region S4853 [S18W03] was observed with a tiny spot.

October 25-27: No obviously Earth directed CMEs were observed in available LASCO imagery.
[Coronal hole
history (since October 2002)]
[Compare today's report to the situation one solar rotation ago:

A recurrent trans equatorial coronal hole (CH697) will likely rotate into an Earth facing position on October 31-November 1.
Long distance low and medium frequency (below 2 MHz) propagation along paths north of due west over upper middle latitudes is good. Propagation on long distance northeast-southwest paths is poor.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be quiet on October 28-31.
Coronal holes (1) | Coronal mass ejection (2) | M and X class flares (3) |
1) Effects from a coronal hole could reach Earth within the
next 5 days. When the high speed stream has arrived the color changes to green.
2) Effects from a CME are likely to be observed at Earth within 96 hours.
3) There is a possibility of either M or X class flares within the next 48
hours.
Green: 0-30% probability, Yellow: 30-70% probability, Red: 70-100% probability.

When available the active region map has a coronal hole polarity overlay where red (pink) is negative and blue is positive.
Data for all numbered solar regions according to the Solar Region Summary provided by NOAA/SWPC. Comments are my own, as is the STAR spot count (spots observed at or inside a few hours before midnight) and data for regions not numbered by SWPC or where SWPC has observed no spots. SWPC active region numbers in the table below and in the active region map above are the historic SWPC/USAF numbers.
