The geomagnetic field was quiet on July 21. The high latitude magnetometer at Andenes recorded quiet to active conditions.
Solar flux density measured at 20h UT on 2.8 GHz was 93.5 - increasing 12.9 over the previous solar rotation. (Centered 1 year average SF at 1 AU - 183 days ago: 77.35). The Potsdam WDC planetary A index was 6 (STAR Ap - based on the mean of three hour interval ap indices: 5.8). Three hour interval K indices: 22112210 (planetary), 33122210 (Boulder), 43114421 (Andenes).
The background x-ray flux is at the class B2 level (GOES 16).
At the time of counting spots (see image time), spots were observed in 10 active regions using 2K resolution (SN: 173) and in 7 active regions using 1K resolution (SN: 99) SDO/HMI images.
Region 12842 [N25W66] was quiet and decayed
significantly losing more than half of its area.
Region 12844 [S42E04] reemerged with tiny spots.
Region 12845 [S15W59] developed as new flux
emerged. A C1.3 flare was recorded at 20:05 UT
Region 12846 [N25E49] was quiet and stable.
Region 12847 [S28E61] was quiet and stable.
New region 12848 [N20E16] was first observed with spots on July 18,
then decayed. New flux emerged on July 20 and the region was numbered the
next day by SWPC. Slow decay was observed after noon on July 21.
New region 12849 [S17E75] rotated into view with a single small spot
and produced a C1.2 flare at 16:04 UT.

differently) by SWPC:
New region S7001 [N21E04] emerged with tiny spots.
New region S7002 [N27E23] emerged with tiny spots.
New region S7003 [S12W18] emerged with a tiny spot.

No obvious coronal holes are currently in or near Earth facing locations.
Long distance low and medium frequency (below 2 MHz) propagation along paths north of due west over upper middle and high latitudes is poor. Propagation on long distance northeast-southwest paths is fair.
The geomagnetic field is expected to be quiet on July 22-24.

stream has arrived the color changes to green.

When available the active region map has a coronal hole polarity overlay where red (pink) is negative and blue is positive.

Comments are my own, as is the STAR spot count (spots observed at or inside a few hours before midnight) and data for regions not numbered by SWPC or where SWPC has observed no spots. SWPC active region numbers in the table below and in the active region map above are the historic SWPC/USAF numbers. SWPC data considered to be not sufficiently precise (location, area, classification) are red colored.
